Blackstone Valley Prep is an intentionally diverse public charter that primarily serves lower-income students in urban districts in Rhode Island.
- Lead-taught and designed courses in English 9, English 12, and Creative Writing
- Rewrote curricula for English 9 & 12 courses with attention to diversity and CCSS alignment
- Piloted equity-based grading system in effort to provide better access to, and better assess student mastery of, high-level English content
- Designed and led school’s first remedial reading program aimed at addressing learning gaps for most vulnerable students
- Piloted school’s first weekly reading program during which each English class spent one full block reading and journaling
- Led or co-led various professional development sessions on topics such as equitable grading practices, effective stack audits, and efficient feedback processes
